The Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) is a single-issue non-profit organization committed to ending elective abortion, focusing on issues that land at the intersection of pregnancy and parenting.
Who Are We?
The Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) was founded on the steps of the Supreme Court on October 1st, 2021. Terrisa Bukovinac, founder of PAAU, set out on a mission that day to disrupt the cycle of abortion violence within her own party: the Democrats. What began that day was something new and unique. PAAU started a movement of young people, dedicated to ending elective abortion and dismantling the Abortion Industrial Complex through direct action and other leftist tactics.
Over the past several years, PAAU has had many successes on a local, national, federal, and international level. On a local and state level, PAAU has organized activists in over dozens of cities and communities spreading over more than 20 states across the country. Federally, PAAU regularly has a presence on Capitol Hill speaking at Congressional press conferences and our founder has even had the opportunity to testify in Congress. PAAU also has a consistent presence outside the Supreme Court, successfully protesting and demonstrating to amplify progressive pro-life voices.
PAAU has cultivated a global impact with the message of building pro-life power reaching international levels. Our founder was the headline speaker at the 2022 Berlin March for Life, which gave us opportunities to make meaningful connections with other pro-lifers from Eastern European countries. We have frequently appeared in French media and documentaries as well as marched alongside secular pro-lifers in London in the fall of 2022. And lastly, our efforts to build solidarity with leftist pro-lifers in Latin America continue to grow with our Spanish speaking branch, PAAU Ahora.
Non-violent direct action is at the core of PAAU’s mission. Since our founding, activists have been peacefully and non-violently placing their bodies between the oppressed and the oppressor. Civil disobedience is critical to any successful social justice movement, and the anti-abortion movement is not an exception.
