Living Reciprocity: An Earth Day Reflection

How can I feel peace when faced with the threat of arrest?

When I cross an abortion business property line to engage in a Rescue, a peaceful resolve settles over me because my actions become aligned with my values. A 'Rescue' in this context refers to a non-violent direct action to save preborn lives. I enter into a just relationship with my preborn neighbors through this act. So, while the Abortion Industry continues to peddle hyper-individualism, I want to offer an antidote: reciprocity.

Recognizing the interconnectedness between myself and future generations creates an ongoing exchange where everyone involved experiences flourishing. This principle of practicing reciprocity in relationships first appears in nature. Trees give us oxygen, rivers provide water, and the sun offers energy for all living things. By mirroring this balance, we can nurture sustainability by building a Culture of Life.

Practicing reciprocity with the Earth means becoming a responsible steward and adopting an attitude of gratitude. One way I showed my appreciation was by cleaning up the park where PAAU holds its hands-on training. During our Justice for the Five: Week of Action, a week-long event dedicated to advocating for the DC Five, we used the park to practice de-escalation scenarios and set up the tents for our encampment. The park gave us space to create safety in our activism, and by collecting the trash that gathered around the edges, we entered into a relationship that once again aligned with our values. I was able to meaningfully give back by ensuring others can also use the park.

Living this way helps create a balanced and interconnected Culture of Life that supports the flourishing of all. So, this Earth Day, ask yourself, "Are my actions positively impacting others and the environment?" Whatever your answer, you can take steps today to align your actions with your values.

Let's live reciprocity -- together!
